Rite Aid 101

I shop here only once in a while because it is not convenient for me. In some areas, there is a Rite Aid on every other corner.  Shop where it works best for you and your family. This is a great store and a favorite of many of my couponing friends. A lot of people don’t like to do rebates because of the fact they have to spend a lot and wait for a rebate. This is only true the first time you shop here. After that you can use your rebate money to buy the next months rebates and keep on getting more back. Or you save your rebate money for a trip! You can find Rite-Aid coupon match ups from Hip2save.com and www.thekrazycouponlady.com and other frugal blogs. (Always check your ad to see if your area is participating in a certain sale. Some sales are regional.)

Ways to save at Rite-Aid – Single Check Rebates, Video Values, Gift Card Promotions, Save $X/$X purchase, Wellness program – UP rewards.

1.      Single Check Rebate (SCR) –
a.      How do I know if an item has a rebate?
If there is a rebate it will be advertised in their ad. You can also go online at riteaid.com to view the monthly rebates, or pick up a rebate booklet in the store. The websites will also tell you if there is rebate that you qualify for when you buy the product.
b.      Is there a limit on the rebates?
Yes. Most of the time you can only submit for one rebate per item. For example there is SCR of $2.69 when you buy Crest Toothpaste for $2.69 (making it Free after rebate). If you buy 2 you will only be able to get 1 $2.69 rebate.
c.       Can I use a coupon on the rebate items?
Yes!!  In the example above I can use a $.75/1 MC and submit for the Full rebate. A great way to get paid to take things off the shelf! You can also use a Rite-Aid store coupon and a MC together for a triple play, triple pay!
d.      How do I submit for my rebate?
The easiest and fasted way is via the internet. Go to Riteaid.com and click on Single Check Rebates. (You’ll have to register on the site.) Enter all the info from your receipts, (so be sure to save them), then click save. Do not submit for the rebate until the end of the rebate period. Why? Because you’re only allowed to submit once per rebate period. So, if you submit early in the month and later on there is a rebate you want you won’t be able to get it. To be safe, enter your receipts right when you get them, but don’t submit until the end of the month. If you buy several items throughout the month with rebates they will combine all of them and send you one check (hence SINGLE check rebate). This check can be cashed and be used anywhere, not just at Rite-Aid. If it’s a gift card promotion, that will come separately.
2.      Video Values
Video Values are store coupons that you can earn by watching promotional videos on-line. From the Rite-Aid website, click on Video Values, sign up and start watching. The videos are from several different manufactures and differ in length from 30 sec to a couple minutes. After you watch one you’ll be prompted to enter a code. After this you can watch more or click on ‘my rewards’ to view the coupons you’ve earned. Also each video is worth 1-2 credits and if you watch 20 credits you’ll earn a “Bonus” Coupon which is usually a certain amount of money off a certain amount purchased. For example a $5/$25 purchase. When you’re ready to print your coupons check the coupons you want and make sure your printer is ready. After you click to print they will disappear. If you watch the same video 10 times you’ll earn 10 credits but only have the opportunity to print the coupon once. These coupons can only be used once. If you copy them or print several out the Rite-Aid computer system will deny the coupon. Since these are store coupons you can combine them with MC’s!
3.      Gift Card Promotions
A few times throughout the year Rite-Aid will have a gift card promotion. For example, this last fall they had a “Fall Gift of Saving”. In a months time frame if you spent more than $100 in the store you got a $20 gift card. If you spent between $50-$100, you got a $10 GC and a $5 GC for spending between $25-$50. For the month of December they are having a similar promotion. Throughout the dates of the promotion enter your receipts online. If you’re entering them for a rebate you don’t need to enter them again for the promotion. If you shopped there and didn’t get any rebate items, still enter you receipt online to get the credit for the promotion. The awesome thing about this is that the money spent is BEFORE coupons! For the Fall Gift of Saving I spent less than $50 OOP (out of Pocket) and still earned the $20 Gift card, and also got back $35 in rebates!!! Talk about shopping for FREE!
4.      $x/$xx Coupon
Rite-Aid will occasionally put out coupons for money off a specific purchase. For example: occasionally on Redplum.com you can print a $5/$25 purchase coupon. These are great because again, it’s BEFORE all other coupons. For the $5/$25 coupon get your purchases as close to, without going under, $25 as you can. Hand over this coupon first then all other MC and store coupons. Separate your transactions out so you can utilize this coupon each time.
5.      Wellness Program – UP rewards
This is a new program that started June 2010 and it’s another great way to save money. You’ll have to sign up for the Wellness program in the store and they will give you a shoppers card, similar to your Smith fresh value card. With this card you get 10% off Rite-Aid products and you earn points for money spent in the store to be redeemed for store discounts. Also with the card you can earn UP Rewards. Up Rewards are money off your next shopping trip. For example, in their ad they stated if you bought 3 packages of Duracell Batteries with your wellness card, you’ll earn $3 in UP Rewards. The UP Rewards print out on your receipt and expire within 4 weeks that you get them. You can turn around and use them on your next transaction to lower your out of pocket and even earn another UP reward!

Rite-Aid has a wonderful Coupon Policy!! Keep it with you in case you ever have a problem. In it, it states you can use 2 coupons on a BOGO Free sale, and you can use a BOGO free coupon with a BOGO free sale to get both items for Free! You can use 1 Store coupon and 1 MC per item. And Internet coupons are accepted if they under a $5 value.

Example of a great Rite-Aid deal on Batteries.
Duracell Batteries are on sale for $4.99, buy 3 and get $3 in UP Rewards, also if you buy $15 worth of Duracell Batteries you’ll get a $5 SCR.  Here’s what I like to call the perfect storm!
Purchase (4) at $4.99 each = $19.96
Purchase small piece of candy to get total over $20
Use (1) $5.00/$20.00 Video Value Coupon
Use (4) $1.00/1 Manufactures Coupon from the 6/6 P&G
Use (1) $1.00/1 Video Value Coupon
Pay $9.96 plus the cost of your filler item.
Then submit for a $5.00 Single Check Rebate!  And get $3 in Up Rewards to use on your next purchase!  That’s like paying $1.96 for 4 packs of Batteries!
